Janet Bourne is a painter working in Staffordshire. She trained in Fine Art at Stafordshire University, and Central Saint Martins, London. She became a full time painter in 2004 producing work that hovers between abstraction and representation. She uses her photography to capture memories of places she has visited, which inspire her work. Her response is deeply personal and emotional.
She started sketching at an early age influenced by her parents who painted in their spare time. Her father encouraged her to explore the streams and hedgerows and sketch the animals she observed. He would paint landscapes for recreation during family holidays – mostly in Scotland and the Eden Valley where her parents were born.
Whether working in Staffordshire, up and down the country or abroad Janet’s work explores the places she has traveled to throughout her life seen through the eyes of an artist with an understanding of the land and a sense of place within it. Janet states;“ In all my work the aim is to convey my feelings and sense of awareness in that particular environment”.
Janet’s working method is challenging, resulting in a working method that is both exciting and fluent. |
